HISTORY AND ESTABLISHMENT :Basic Information about college

Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College, Mayabunder is the only Higher Learning Institute in the District of Middle and North Andaman. Its sphere of activity and catchment area ranges from Paschimsagar of Diglipur upto Baratang encompassing a large chunk of territory and majority population. Initially started at Car Nicobar in the year 1990 and later shifted to Mayabunder in the year 1994. In a sprouting campus of 34.88 Acres eco-friendly atmosphere, enchanting sea and virgin forest, the college is an attraction not only to the students but also to tourists and visitors who visit to Karmatang beach. Initially started with a meager student strength of less than 100, it has now reached to a total strength of 897 with 41 teaching staff, 30 non-teaching staff and more than 50 supporting staff.

The College Campus starts with a bronze statue of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi which is a source of inspiration to all students and staff. The statue is surrounded by different types of flowering and ornamental plants which gives an aesthetic sense to students, staff and visitors. The college is having a ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING with Principal Chamber, Visitors Room, Office all the Heads of the Departments, Common Staff Room, Admission and Examination Wing, Computer Lab, Geography Lab, Stores , Record Room, NSS unit, IGNOU Study centre and many other allied rooms utilized for academic and cultural pursuits. Besides there are adequate smart class rooms for Arts, Commerce and Geography streams. Added to this a well equipped triple storied LIBRARY having full-fledged facility such as reading room, reference section, issue section and seminar room. The college also possess a well furnished CONFERENCE ROOM accommodating 150 students equipped with PA System and projector system.

 
CAUTION
1.  STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO FAMILIARISE THEMSELVES WITH THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE PONDICHERRY UNIVERSITY WITH REGARD TO THE DEGREE FOR WHICH THEY ARE SEEKING ADMISSION. THEY WILL ABIDE BY ALL THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY.
 
2. RAGGING OF ANY TYPE IS STRICTLY BANNED IN COLLEGE CAMPUS AND HOSTELS. THOSE WHO INDULGE IN THIS UNHEALTHY PRACTICE WILL BE SEVERELY DEALT WITH.

3.  SMOKING, CHEWING PAN AND SPITTING AROUND THE COLLEGE/HOSTEL PREMISES IS PROHIBITED. IT SHALL BE THE DUTY OF EVERY STUDENT TO KEEP THE COLLEGE CAMPUS NEAT AND CLEAN. THE STUDENTS MUST SHOW GOOD CONDUCT AND MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE IN THE COLLEGE/HOSTELS.
4. USE OF MOBILE PHONES IS STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOMS.
5. As per Pondicherry University norms 75% attendance is compulsory to be eligible for appearing in University exams.
6. For stipend as per A & N Administration instructions 75% attendance in Class as well as in Hostel is necessary.

Do's Dont's
Use only courteous and polite language and behave with decorum with the faculty, staff, students and guests of the College All shall desist from indulging in violence.
Shall be regular and punctual in attending classes and all activities connected with the college. Shall not talk or act in any manner in a way that would bring disrepute to the college.
Read notices/circulars displayed on the Notice Board/Web site. Gathering in groups at roads, entrance, exit and pathways is strictly prohibited.
Ignorance of not reading any notice/circular thus displayed shall not be accepted as an excuse for failing to comply with the directions contained in it. Should not leave the class or attend it late under the pretext of paying fees, visiting the library etc.
All vehicles should be parked in the allotted place. Smoking, consumption of any kind of alcoholic drinks/drugs inside the college is strictly prohibited.
While attending college functions, students will conduct themselves in such a way as to bring credit to themselves and to the institutions. Damaging the building or any other property of the college in any way is strictly prohibited.
The students are expected to take up all assignments, tests and examinations of this University seriously and try to perform the best. Indulging in Ragging and Eve teasing are crimes and strictly prohibited. If any student indulges in any form of ragging or Eve-Teasing inside the college premises or/Hostels or/outside, he/she will be summarily expelled from the college.
Each student of this college must always possess student Identity Card with his/her photograph affixed on it and duly attested by the Principal. Misconduct during examination, production of false information or documents for admission purpose and the failure to return materials taken on loan from the college would be seriously dealt with.
Use the resources of the college namely library, computers, equipments, transport, medical, communications, power, etc judiciously and effectively. Use of mobile phones/other electronic gadgets such as ipod, iphone within the classrooms, seminar halls and auditoriums is strictly banned/ violation of this rule by any student would result in impounding of these devices and strict disciplinary action.
Any genuine complaints file them to the concerned authority without fear. Students should not involve themselves either directly or indirectly in any form of politics either inside or outside the college during their period of study.
